My neighbor the accountant told me to cash flow my vacation. He was right.
Danny from next door saw me putting a trip to Mexico on a credit card. He said, just save $200 a month for 6 months instead. I rolled my eyes but tried it. Put $200 in a separate envelope every paycheck. Paid for the whole trip cash, no interest. Has anyone else had someone give you boring advice that actually worked?

Did you at least treat yourself to one fancy margarita with the money you saved on interest?

My sister gave me the same boring advice about Christmas gifts a few years ago. She said put $50 a week in a jar starting in July and by December I'd have $1200 for presents. @troy_adams is right about the fancy margarita though, that interest savings can go to something fun instead of the credit card company. I ended up buying a cheap margarita machine off Facebook Marketplace with my saved interest and it was way more worth it.
