Tried the $1 meal prep challenge and my grocery bill hit $23 for the week

I decided to see if I could feed myself for under $30 a week like those bloggers claim. I bought rice, beans, eggs, frozen veggies, and some chicken thighs on sale. By day three I was so bored I ate instant ramen just for a different flavor lol. Ended up wasting $4 of chicken that went bad because I didn't plan the meals right. So my 'win' was really a $27 experiment in realizing cheap eating needs more variety. Has anyone else tried those extreme budget challenges and just ended up craving a normal burger?

Oh man, that's exactly the trap those challenges don't warn you about! I've noticed this pattern where people try to game the system on food costs but forget that eating is half about enjoyment too. The bloggers show you the math but not the mental drain of eating the same boring stuff every day. Like, saving money is great but if you're miserable and craving a burger by Wednesday, the savings don't really matter. Plus the waste part is huge - I've seen so many friends buy cheap bulk stuff then throw half of it out because they couldn't stick to the plan. The real trick isn't eating for $1 a meal, it's finding that sweet spot between cheap and actually enjoyable so you don't give up and order pizza by Friday.

@benwilliams nailed it, the math never accounts for how fast you'll crack.
