Had to pick between a 2-person and 3-person tent for a week in the Smokies, went with the smaller one.

Honestly, you sure about that choice? A two person tent is basically a one person tent with your gear inside. Tbh for a whole week you're gonna want that extra space to move around and keep your stuff dry. The weather up there can turn real quick and you'll be stuck inside. Ngl I'd rather carry a little extra weight and actually be comfortable.

Yeah alex_flores24 is right, got caught in a downpour last year and that extra space saved my trip.
