Rant: I used a $20 Walmart sleeping bag on a trip to the Smokies and froze, then borrowed my buddy's $150 Kelty. Night and day.

Honestly, how cold did it really get? I've used cheap bags in spring and been fine. Maybe you just got one that was rated for way warmer weather than you needed. Isn't it more about picking the right temperature rating than just the price tag?

My Smokies trip with that Walmart bag felt like sleeping in a meat locker, so @chen.james, I guess my cheap bag's "summer" rating was a lie.
