Update: My old canvas tent finally gave out after 22 years
I was packing it away after a trip to the Adirondacks and the last pole sleeve just ripped clean through. What's a solid replacement these days that can handle some real weather?

Man, that's the real end of an era. It feels like everything's built to break now, not to last like your old tent. You'll probably have to do a ton of research to find something that even comes close.

My grandpa's old canvas tent lasted thirty years, and nothing today comes close.

Actually have to disagree a bit on the idea that nothing lasts now. Materials have come a long way. A good modern tent with a strong pole set and solid rainfly can take a real beating. My own nylon one has seen some nasty storms and is still going strong after a decade. The key is buying from a brand that still focuses on real outdoor use, not just backyard camping. You might be surprised what's out there.
