Just realized I spent $1200 on a home inspection that missed major foundation cracks... should these reports come with some kind of guarantee?

Actually, that phrase usually means the work is sloppy and only looks okay from a distance. It's a joke about bad quality, not a real guarantee. People say it when something is done fast and wrong. The point is there is no guarantee at all. It's the opposite of a promise of good work.

Ha, you got me there @ray_patel27. I actually used to think that phrase was just a casual joke about something being decent enough. But seeing it spelled out like that with stella904's explanation, yeah I totally get it now. It's like when you're standing far back from a painting and it looks fine but up close it's a mess. Makes sense why people say it when work is half-baked.
