Had a coffee with a guy who does hiring for a design firm and he said something about my portfolio that stung
He told me my work was technically solid but lacked any real story behind it after looking through 12 projects last Thursday, has anyone else had to totally rework their portfolio after getting brutal feedback like that?

...but storytelling isn't just about the projects themselves, it's about how you talk about them too. I see a lot of people think they have to craft some dramatic narrative for each piece when really it's more about just being able to explain why you made the choices you made. Like, what problem were you trying to solve and how did your design actually help fix it? That's the kinda story hiring people want to hear, not some made up backstory about your inspiration. Sounds like that guy was trying to tell you something useful even if it hurt in the moment.
