Turned down a $12k raise to stay at a dead-end job, here's why

My old manager at the bank in Columbus offered me $12k more to switch teams, but I said no last month. Turns out the new team does 60 hour weeks and I'd miss every family dinner. Has anyone else passed on money for a better schedule and regretted it or felt great?

Count your blessings, man. A $12k raise sounds sweet until you are eating cold dinner at 9pm alone. I have watched buddies chase the money and burn out in six months, it is never worth it. You made the smart call, your kids will remember you being there way more than the extra cash. Honestly, I would take the dead-end job with a heartbeat over a 60 hour grind any day. Zero regrets from me, you should feel the same.

But what about the flip side, like five years down the road when the dead-end job still hasn't moved and you're staring at the same spreadsheet? Do you ever catch yourself wondering if the 60 hour weeks would have at least bought you a nicer house or a better school district, even if you missed dinner? Idk, maybe it's just me, but I feel like the regret can sneak in later, not right away.
