Vent: overheard someone at the shop say pour overs are just for show
I was at a local roastery in Portland last Saturday and this guy told his friend that anyone who does pour overs is just trying to look fancy. He said it doesn't even taste different from a drip machine. Has anyone else run into this kind of gatekeeping about brewing methods?

Last summer I was in a coffee shop in Austin and this guy spent ten minutes arguing with the barista that his $2,000 espresso machine made the exact same cup as a $30 Moka pot. He was dead serious, waving his hands around while his latte sat getting cold. I didn't say anything but I could hear the steam wand hissing from across the room like it was laughing at him. People get real weird about how their coffee is made, like it's a personal attack if someone else does it different.

Twenty five dollars for a bag of single origin beans and you're telling me a moka pot extracts the same oils and body as a proper 9 bar machine? That's like saying a Honda Civic drives the same as a Porsche because they both have four wheels.
