Vent: A guy at a con told me my art looked 'too clean'

I was showing my fantasy character portraits at a small con in Austin, and this older artist stopped to look for a solid five minutes. He finally said, 'The work is good, but it's all too clean, like you're scared of a messy brush.' He was right, I'd been sticking to super smooth blends in Procreate for years. Has anyone else gotten a piece of advice that totally flipped how you work?

Too clean" is just one person's opinion. Some people actually prefer that polished, finished look. Not every piece needs to look like a messy sketch.

Too clean" reminds me of when a chef told me my cookies looked "too perfect" to taste good.
