Panama City last month taught me why coworking spaces matter
I was in Panama City last month working from my hostel lobby. The WiFi dropped every 20 minutes and I had a client call at 2pm. I scrambled to a coworking space called Selina on a whim. Paid $15 for a day pass and got fiber optic internet plus a quiet room. Has anyone else had a last minute coworking save a deadline?

Used to think coworking spaces were just overpriced coffee shops for tech bros. Then I had a similar situation in Santa Fe last year - hotel WiFi kept cutting out right before I had to send a huge file to a client. Walked into a place called The Hive, paid $20 for the day, and got the work done in two hours flat. Really changed how I see them. Now I always scope one out before a trip just in case.

Forty bucks at a WeWork in downtown Denver back in 2019 is what got me. I was on a road trip and thought it was a total scam until my motel internet crashed right before a deadline. Walked in feeling like a tourist in my own city and got a quiet corner with coffee that was actually decent. I still don't love the whole startup vibe but you can't argue with a solid connection and a desk that isn't your bed. Now I keep a list of spots in cities I visit regularly, just in case.
