I finally fixed my drifting joystick with a cheap part from Amazon
I was at a local game shop last month and this guy named Dave saw me fighting with my Xbox controller. He pointed out my joystick module was loose and said try a $5 replacement from Amazon instead of a whole new controller. I ordered one, swapped it out in 20 minutes with just a screwdriver and some tweezers, and it's been perfect ever since. Anyone else had good luck with those cheap stick modules?

Why should I trust a $5 part from Amazon not to crap out in a month? I've seen those cheap modules wobble worse than the original after a few gaming sessions. If it works for you, cool, but I'll stick with spending a little more on something that'll actually last.

Right there with you on the quality gamble. I've swapped out a couple cheap joystick modules on my old PS4 controller and half of them started drifting again within like two weeks. The plastic feels thinner and the little nub wears down way faster, so after a few sweaty competitive matches the whole thing just feels loose and mushy. Plus some of those no-name brands don't have proper dead zone calibration so they register movement when you're not even touching them. Paying a bit more for a known brand or a reputable third party is just saving yourself the headache of having to re-do the solder job in a month.
