I finally think masking tape is a waste for most painting jobs.

Some folks insist on tape for clean lines, but I get better edges freehand and save time. A steady hand and good brush control have never failed me on walls or trim. Who else skips the tape or do you rely on it?

How long did it take to get that good freehand? I'd probably make a huge mess trying it.

Oh man, @annas33, I feel that so much. My first tries looked like a toddler got hold of the brush. The shakiness is real, just like the_james said. It honestly took a solid year of doing little practice lines every single day before I stopped cringing at my own work. What finally helped me was just relaxing my grip and breathing out slowly while making the stroke. How about you, do you paint or draw much at all?

Totally get that. My hands shake like crazy every time I try it. Took me years to get a steady line going.
