Rant: My deck stain job looked awful after 2 days, but a month later it's perfect.

Used a solid color stain on my pressure treated pine deck in early June, and it looked streaky and blotchy right away. I was ready to strip it, but my buddy who does painting told me to just wait for the wood to fully dry out. After about 30 days, the color evened out completely and looks great now. Has anyone else had a stain look bad at first but fix itself after waiting?
