Client called my blueprints doodles until the build started

I was working on a house plan, and the owner kept joking that my CAD drawings were just scribbles. I had to sit with them and point out all the details like wall layers and fixture spots. After the framing went up exactly to spec, they finally got how precise drafting is. Now they won't stop telling their contractor buddies about my work.

Ever think maybe your drawings actually were messy? Some architects forget normal people can't read their technical scribbles.

Full disclosure, my last site plan looked like a toddler attacked it with a T-square. Let's be real, half my notes are just for me to remember what I meant three days later. My contractor now has a standing order to call me before he tries to build anything I've labeled "obvious." I even drew a detailed arrow last week and still had to write "microwave goes here" next to it.

Okay the part about writing "microwave goes here" next to an arrow is so real. I read this article about how our brains work when we're deep in a project, where the details seem super clear to us in the moment because we're living in it. Then three days later that perfect mental picture is just gone, and all that's left is a weird arrow on paper. It's not even about messy drawings, it's that our own memory tricks us. We should probably all just label everything.
