I used to always replace blown capacitors first thing on every board

After 8 years I finally paid attention to a bad voltage regulator that was killing the caps. Had a customer bring back a power supply I 'fixed' 2 months later with the exact same failure. Anyone else ever skip past the real problem chasing the obvious fix?

Nah, I get where you're coming from but I think the easy fix is usually the right move. Nine times out of ten a bad cap is just a bad cap. You can't be chasing ghosts every time you swap one out or you'll never get anything done.

Skip the easy fix if you want, but that's how you learn the real problem eventually.
