Why nobody talks about using phone alarms for laundry timing

I was at my friend's apartment last Saturday and saw she had 3 separate phone alarms set for different laundry cycles. She said she used to forget clothes in the washer all the time until she started setting a timer the moment she pressed start. Has anyone else tried this or do you just guess on timing?

Set multiple alarms myself, one for each step so nothing sits wet too long.

... which reminds me, I once set a timer for 3 minutes to rinse my hair with vinegar and then completely forgot I had a 3 minute timer going. Ended up standing in the shower for like 15 minutes wondering why it was beeping at me.
