A customer made me redo a hallway because my seams were 1/8 inch off
After I spent 3 hours on a vinyl plank install in a condo near Chicago, the homeowner pulled out a level and showed me the gap was catching light, so now I check every seam with a bright flashlight before I pack up my tools - has anyone else had a homeowner catch something tiny that drove you crazy?

Drove me up a wall when a customer pointed out my grout lines were varying by like a 16th of an inch on a backsplash job. Made me step back and realize there's a whole world of folks who notice things the rest of us just walk past. Your mileage may vary, but I've found that kind of attention to detail is either a curse or a superpower depending on how you look at it. Take it from me, that flashlight trick is gold and now I use a bright work light from the hardware store on every finish pass I do. Sometimes those tiny catches save you from a bigger headache down the road.

Honestly push back on that a little. I mean if a homeowner is staring at a 1/8 inch gap with a flashlight and a level, maybe they need a hobby or something. You did a 3 hour install and they broke out measuring tools, feels like they were looking for a reason to complain.
