A homeowner in Phoenix said something about my underlayment choice that made me pause.
I was laying down a vapor barrier for a laminate job last month, and the client asked me why I picked a 6 mil poly over the thicker foam stuff. He said, 'It's not about stopping the sound, it's about stopping the story.' I've been thinking about that line ever since. What's the most memorable thing a customer has ever said to you about your process?

Read a blog post where a carpenter called it "quieting the house". Honestly, that's the whole goal, making a fix so clean it just becomes part of the place. Tbh the best work does feel like it was always there.

Sounds like we're just fancy ghosts, huh? Haunting the trim until it forgets its own name.

Had a guy watch me scribe a tricky baseboard cut once. He just nodded and said, 'That's not just making it fit, that's making it forget it was ever somewhere else.' Stuck with me... like our job is to erase the evidence of the work itself.
