I used to hate scribing for baseboards until an old-timer showed me his trick

Guy named Jerry on a job site in Nashville watched me fighting a gap for 20 minutes and just said 'cut it long and flex it, you're overthinking this.' Tried it on the next run and it took me 2 minutes instead of 20. Anybody else got a shortcut they swore by until someone proved them wrong?

Huh, I don't know if I'd call a three-hour trim fight that big of a deal. I've spent a whole afternoon on a single piece of window casing before and just called it a learning experience. Hot water trick works for some stuff but I've seen it warp cheaper MDF boards if you soak them too long. Jerry's advice about cutting long and flexing is solid for baseboard though, as long as you don't go too long and snap the thing. I guess it depends on how much patience you've got and how picky you are about the final look.

Man, I swear that's the kind of thing that makes you feel like a genius AFTER you learn it. My buddy Dave spent three hours fighting a piece of trim in his own house and finally called his uncle who just told him to soak it in hot water and bend it. Said he felt like an idiot for not thinking of it sooner but it saved him from tearing out all his work.
