PSA: Don't fall for those fancy self-leveling underlayment claims
I spent $350 on a premium self-leveling underlayment for a 400 square foot living room job six months ago. The stuff was supposed to dry in 2 hours and be ready for tile. Ended up taking almost 5 hours to set, and I still had low spots I had to patch with a second bag later. Has anyone else gotten burned by those quick-dry promises on product labels?

Yeah those quick-dry claims are total marketing BS.

The 2 hour dry time is usually for a specific thickness like 1/4 inch, not for the deeper pours most people end up doing. If you had any spots deeper than that it throws the whole timeline off because the chemical reaction slows down with more material. The self-leveling part also only works right if you mix it exactly to the spec and pour it fast enough before it starts setting up. Sounds like the store didn't warn you about that stuff, happens all the time with these products.
