Shoutout to the old school guys who taught me to scribe by hand

Just finished a big LVT job in a 1920s house with crazy uneven walls. Used a laser level and a contour gauge, got it perfect in an hour. My mentor back in '05 would have spent half a day with a compass and a pencil. Anyone else miss the quiet focus of that old method, even if the new tools are faster?

My uncle was a cabinet maker and taught me to scribe with a block of wood and a pencil. There was a real art to it, watching the line form against the wall. I still do it sometimes on small jobs just for the peace of it. The new tools are amazing and save so much time, no argument there. But that old quiet focus is a different kind of skill. It feels like you're really connecting the material to the space.

Ever try to scribe with a laser and just end up drawing on your own hand? Asking for a friend.
