I nearly lost $40 in ground beef last Tuesday

I bought a family pack of ground beef on Monday and threw it straight into the fridge without checking the temp. By Tuesday night it smelled off and I had to toss the whole thing. Anyone else ever ruin meat by not getting it cold fast enough?

Knew a guy who called that "fridge roulette". You always lose when you play with meat.

I'll never forget the time I did almost the exact same thing but with a whole chicken. Had it sitting in the back of the fridge for like 3 days before I realized the temp was way too high. @the_lisa is spot on with the fridge roulette thing, I seem to always lose at that game. Now I just stick a thermometer in the fridge every time I open the door like a paranoid weirdo. At least ground beef is cheaper than a whole chicken so you got off kind of easy lol.
