Oh man, totally. When my power went out for three days last winter, those boring bags of beans in the back of the pantry became a lifesaver. I had a camp stove, so I could soak and cook them outside. We ate bean soup, beans with rice, even mashed beans on toast. It made me realize they're not just a backup plan, they're real food that keeps you going when everything else goes wrong. Now I always keep a big bag.
