My neighbor saw me buying a single bell pepper and told me to always check the price per pound, not just the sticker price.
He pointed at the organic ones I was about to grab, which were $5.99 a pound, then showed me the regular ones right next to them for $1.79 a pound, and said 'they taste the same in a stew, trust me'.

Listen to your neighbor. He just saved you four bucks.

Check the price per ounce on the shelf tag, not just the big number. That big bag of rice might seem cheap, but the smaller box is often a better deal by weight. I've saved so much just by comparing those tiny labels. It feels silly at first, but it adds up fast.
