Sent a demand letter myself and the company just ignored it

I wrote a formal letter asking for a $400 refund after a service was not provided, following a template I found online. They never replied, and now I'm stuck wondering if I should pay a lawyer or just drop it. Has anyone had a similar thing happen and what did you do next?

I used to think small claims court was too much hassle, but it worked for me.

Got to agree with you @lindareed, it took me way too long to try small claims court. I had a neighbor who let their dog tear up part of my yard and then refused to pay for the damage. Kept putting it off because I figured it would be a huge headache. But when I finally went in, the clerk walked me through the whole process and it was pretty straightforward. Judge ruled in my favor too and I got paid within a month. Sometimes you just gotta go for it.

Totally agree, I had the exact same change of heart. My old landlord tried to keep my whole deposit for a carpet cleaning fee that was in the lease as normal wear and tear. Filled out the forms online (which was way easier than I thought), showed up with my copy of the lease, and the judge ruled in my favor in like ten minutes. Got my check two weeks later. It felt so good to stand up for myself without needing a lawyer.
