My new Estwing rock hammer was totally worth the $45

I was trying to split a stubborn piece of granite from a local creek bed last weekend and my old hardware store hammer just bounced off. The Estwing's pick end went right in and gave me a clean break to see the crystal structure. Has anyone else found a specific tool that made a huge difference in the field?

Got a Cold Steel shovel for digging test pits. Thing cuts through roots like butter. Total game changer for soil sampling.

A good hammer is key, but sometimes the right technique matters more than the tool itself. I've split plenty of creek granite with a basic hammer by finding the natural fracture lines. @the_reese might have better luck looking for those weak points instead of just hitting it. Spending more on gear doesn't always fix the problem if you're going at it the wrong way. What kind of strike pattern were you using on that granite?

Man, you're out there fighting rocks like some kind of geology superhero. My cheap hammer would have just made a sad clink and given up. Guess you really do get what you pay for with tools.
