Honestly, my kiln shelf cracked on a Friday and I had to finish a big order over the weekend.
I was in the middle of a set of six custom tumblers for a coffee shop in Austin and the whole thing just gave out. I ended up using some old firebricks as a temporary shelf to keep the heat even and it actually worked fine. Has anyone else had to do a quick fix like that to save a batch?

Heard about a mate who propped his up with kiln posts and a spare tile. Got the job done.

So you basically built a new kiln floor out of junk? That's pretty wild. Sounds like you and @lilyallen's friend are in the same "whatever works" club. I guess a cracked shelf is just a chance to get creative with firebricks.

Man, I've been there too! I had a kiln shelf crack clean in half last summer and I just stacked some firebricks underneath to level it out again, worked just fine for a few firings. @lilyallen's friend would totally approve of my setup, it was ugly but it held up til I could afford a proper replacement. Sometimes you just gotta make do with what you have on hand.
