PSA: Heard a guy at the supply house say he never uses a certain sealant for overhead glass anymore

He was telling his buddy about a job in Tempe where it failed after 18 months. I always thought it was fine, but now I'm switching to a different brand for anything vertical or sloped. Anyone have a go-to for exterior overhead panels?

Actually, that sealant is rated for overhead glass if it's installed right. The Tempe failure sounds like a prep or priming issue, not the product itself. I've seen it last ten years on sloped glazing when the surface was clean and dry. What brand are you thinking of switching to?

Feel your pain, man. Bad prep can ruin even the best stuff.

Might depend on the substrate too. Tempe gets crazy hot, so thermal expansion could cause issues even with perfect prep if the sealant can't handle the flex. Been a while since I looked, but some of the silicones out there have better UV resistance for desert climates like that.
