Changed my mind about guest lounge lighting after a hotel stay in Savannah

I always thought a guest lounge needed bright overhead lights... but the one at The Marshall House last month had these warm, low lamps in the corners. It completely changed the vibe from a waiting area to a place you actually wanted to sit and talk. The manager said they swapped the old fluorescents out about six months ago and guest time spent in the lounge doubled. Anyone else notice a small change that made a huge difference in a lounge space?

But what if you actually need to read something in there? Low light can be a real pain.

My old apartment had a fridge light that died for six months. You start to realize how many things are designed assuming you can see them clearly. It's a small flaw that makes daily life way more annoying than it should be.

Honestly, you learn to adapt pretty quick. I had a fridge light out for a year once and you just start remembering where stuff is. It forces you to be more organized, too. You don't stand there with the door open letting all the cold air out. Tbh, it's kind of a nice break from everything being so bright and in your face all the time.
