My first boss would roll over if he saw how fast we pump out drawings now.

I started on a drafting table with paper rolls and a whole set of lead pencils. Each line had to be just right, and erasing meant starting over sometimes. Now we use CAD programs and finish plans in a fraction of the time. But I still catch myself wanting to measure angles by hand instead of clicking buttons. My old mentor drilled into us that neatness and accuracy were everything. These days, the focus feels more on meeting deadlines than perfecting details. I wonder if we're losing some of the craft in the rush. How do you guys balance speed with keeping that old school quality in your work?

PSA: A stranger posing as a event planner took my sample bouquet and never paid

This person came by my shop last Friday asking for a custom sample for a big party. They promised to return with payment but left and blocked my number. How do you protect yourself from folks who take samples and run?

Local builders are all for that new rapid-set mortar, but I have doubts

They used it on the strip mall going up near my place, and I noticed the joints look weak after just a few months. Our area gets big temperature swings, and I think it cracks too easy. Saw a similar issue on a patio job last fall that needed repair. For me, good old slow-cure mortar still does the job right around here.

DAE use smell to catch tree issues early?

I was looking at a sick pine and got a whiff of something sour. It tipped me off to a fungal infection I would have missed. Now I make it a habit to smell around trees during checks.

Update: Our CAD license server crashed during a deadline rush

Just had the worst week. The license server decided to take a nap on Tuesday, and we all got locked out. Of course, management was 'aware' but had zero fixes ready. Now the whole team is panicking to hit the Friday cutoff. Sometimes I wonder if they think drawings magically appear.

Why does nobody talk about brewing coffee with a pinch of salt?

Honestly, I think a tiny bit of salt cuts the bitterness way better than sugar. Tbh, I added it as a prank and now my morning cup tastes smoother. Ngl, my friends all laughed but they're missing out.
