Our book club in Austin spent three weeks arguing over the ending of 'Klara and the Sun'

Half of us, led by my friend Carla, think the ending is hopeful and shows Klara's love was real. The other half think it's a bleak commentary on how we use and discard artificial life. The debate got so heated we had to table it and read a romance novel as a palate cleanser. Which side are you on, hopeful or bleak?

Showerthought: I used to think deja vu was just a brain hiccup until my brother said the exact same thing I was thinking, word for word.

We were in a diner in Phoenix and he described a weird dream about a green clock, which was the same one I'd had that morning. Has a shared dream ever happened to anyone you know?

Spent 4 hours tracing a ground fault in an old Chicago apartment building because the previous guy used 3 different wire colors for the same circuit.

Thinking back to my first carpet stretcher from 1998

I started with a basic manual stretcher that took a lot of muscle and a helper to get a tight fit. Now I use a power stretcher I bought about five years ago, and I can handle big rooms solo in half the time. The switch happened after a job in a long ranch house where my old method just left ripples. Does anyone still use the old manual kind for certain spots, or is it all power now?

Vent: I always thought a knee kicker was fine for small rooms, but a job in a Denver split-level changed my mind.

Had to choose between using my old knee kicker or renting a power stretcher for a 12x15 living room with a tricky angled wall. I went with the kicker to save the rental fee... but after two hours of fighting wrinkles and a sore knee, I went and got the power stretcher. The difference was night and day, got the rest of the room tight and flat in under 30 minutes. Wasted half a morning being stubborn. For rooms over 10 feet wide, do you guys always use a power stretcher, or is there a trick with a kicker I'm missing?
