Shoutout to the person who told me to put painter's tape on my miter saw fence

I was cutting some crown molding for my living room last weekend and kept getting these tiny chips on the back edge. My neighbor Bob saw me cussing and said just run a strip of blue tape down the fence line. I tried it and now the cuts come out smooth every time. No more sanding the ends after each cut. Has anyone else found a weird tape trick that saved their project?

That blue tape on a crosscut sled is genius, I gotta try that now. The trick works because the tape basically holds the wood fibers tight against the fence so they don't blow out when the blade hits. I actually use it on my bandsaw too when I'm resawing thin pieces, it keeps the cut from wandering. Another thing I learned is to put a strip on your miter saw base where the wood sits, it helps stop workpiece creep so your cuts stay accurate. The tape gives just enough grip without being permanent. Really changes the game for any project where tearout is making you crazy.

I put blue tape on my table saw fence when cutting thin veneer plywood and it completely stopped the tearout on the bottom side.

Yeah that blue tape trick is a lifesaver. I started doing it after I got sick of cleaning up tearout on some nice birch ply and it fixed the issue right away. Have you ever tried it on a crosscut sled too?
