My silk lining ripped right before a big show in Portland

I was backstage and had to hand-stitch a patch with some spare charmeuse in about 20 minutes. Has anyone found a really strong, lightweight lining fabric that can take some stress?

My friend's costume shop in Seattle swears by a 30-denier ripstop nylon for dance costumes. They had a touring company put it through six months of constant wear and washing, and it held up without a single tear. It's basically like a super thin, soft parachute material.

That "super thin, soft parachute material" description is spot on. It reminds me of a weirdly specific memory from a camping trip years ago. We had this cheap nylon tent that felt like a costume, and a huge storm rolled in. The thing was flapping so hard I thought it would shred, but that little grid of ripstop threads actually held. Makes you wonder why all rain jackets aren't made that tough, right?

Oh man, that tent story is a whole mood lol. I had a similar one that turned into a giant, flapping kite and took off down a hill. Ripstop is wild, it looks so flimsy but just won't quit. Maybe jackets avoid it 'cause we'd all look like we're wearing emergency blankets, which honestly I'm not against.
