My grandma's tamale recipe used to take two full days, but now I do it in six hours and they're just as good.

I read about a guy who shaved 20 minutes off his commute by taking old farm roads around the main highway bottleneck. It only works if you know the exact turns, otherwise you get lost. The real secret is that most shortcuts just trade time for your focus and gas money. You end up stressing over back roads to save maybe five minutes.

I gave up on frozen fries and just cut a russet potato into wedges, sprayed them with oil, and ran them at 400 for 18 minutes.

Wait, you guys are soaking your fries? That's wild. @baker.ruby is totally right, soaking just makes them soggy. I just cut, dry them off real good with a paper towel, and toss them in oil. They come out way crispier without all that extra water. I tried the soak method once and it was a total fail, never went back.

My $80 orchid mister was a total waste of money

Yeah, I got one of those fancy glass misters with the fancy pump. Looked great on the shelf. It basically just hoses down the plant like a tiny fire extinguisher. Leaves were soaked for hours. My cheap plastic bottle from under the sink gives this perfect little cloud. Feels like half the gardening stuff is just for looks.

Just realized that switching to all-electric machines for 'green' points might not be worth it yet

That's rough, sounds like his shop just couldn't handle the extra load all at once. We had a similar scare with a new oven at my place. Ended up getting a separate circuit run just for that one machine, and it stopped the tripping for good. It was an extra cost upfront but cheaper than losing business. Did he ever look into something like that before giving up on it?

Update: My game group finally finished a 4-hour Gloomhaven scenario last Thursday

Seriously, four hours for one board game night? At that point, I just start wondering if it's even fun anymore or just a chore. We tried a big campaign game once and spent more time setting up and taking notes than actually playing. Isn't the whole point to relax and hang out, not run a second job tracking every little piece?
