I spent two weeks trying to fix a weird clicking noise on my ride

It was this faint click with every pedal stroke that started after a rainy week. I checked the chain, pedals, and crank arms, greasing everything I could think of. I even took the whole bottom bracket apart and put it back together. The fix ended up being the rear quick release skewer; it wasn't tight enough and was shifting slightly. Has anyone else had a simple fix for a noise that drove them nuts?

Honestly, I almost lost a $15k client over a simple layer naming mess in a set of commercial site plans.

This was for a new strip mall in Dayton. I was rushing to get the final PDFs out before a Friday deadline. I sent them off, thought I was done. Monday morning, the lead contractor calls me, furious. The grading contractor couldn't isolate the utility layers because my naming convention used spaces and special characters their old CAD software couldn't parse. Their whole earthmoving schedule got pushed back a day. I had to drop everything, go back into every single XREF, and rename all the utility layers to a simple 'U_xxxx' format, then re-plot and re-send. Took me 4 hours to fix. Now I have a pre-submission checklist that includes 'dumb layer names for old software compatibility'. Anyone else have a specific layer naming rule they stick to for avoiding this kind of disaster?

Pro tip: a bag of ice and a parking ticket solved my generator noise problem

My taco truck's generator was so loud it kept getting complaints at a spot near the library in Tacoma. I finally put a heavy moving blanket over it, then balanced a half-full bag of party ice on top as extra weight. The noise dropped by half and a cop who came by just gave me a parking ticket instead of a noise fine. Has anyone else found a weird fix that actually worked for a loud generator?

Hot take: I think we put too much trust in five star reviews

I was reading reviews for a new phone case on a big site last week, and one guy gave it five stars but his comment just said 'arrived fast'. That's about the shipping, not the product. It made me see how many glowing reviews are for stuff that doesn't matter, like packaging or a seller being nice. Now I skip straight to the three and four star comments to find actual details about the thing itself. How do you filter out the useless praise when you're reading reviews?

Now, I always ask for two specific case studies from the last year and call a past client myself. The difference in results has been huge. Fought with a sticky film advance on a Pentax Spotmatic for almost a week

Know a guy who bought a "mint" Leica M3. Checked the curtains, fired the shutter, everything seemed smooth. Two rolls in, every frame had this weird, faint line. Temperature is just one factor. A good seal on the crock matters more in my experience.
